Session Abstract
This session describes the powerful combination of a microlearning curriculum paired with a real-life tour of significant places and milestones in Black History (experiential learning). Participants learned about the events through the microleaning curriculum and then went on a tour of several of the places explored in the curriculum.

1. Identify opportunities for community education using microlearning formats
2. Experience sample microlearning lessons
3. Analyze a blended learning diversity curriculum using microlearning and non-formal learning pedagogies
4. Compare and contrast significant events in black history using microlearning and experiential learning pedagogies
Session Description
The course described was designed for participants of the 2019 Face-to-face with Black History tour as well as any individuals that wished to embark on the same route and tour. Before departing on the tour, participants learned about civil rights activities at sites such as Memphis, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Tuskegee, and Atlanta that were visited. Learning Outcomes for the microlearning and tour included:
- LO 1 Develop a greater understanding of each destination prior to the visit (Learn History)
- LO 2 Reflect on significant historical landmarks (Learn History)
- LO 3 Develop empathy for the players of Black History (Respect History)
- LO 4 Understand your story in the context of Black History (Respect History)
- LO5 Reflect on your story, your passion and prepare yourself to Make History
Additionally, preliminary assessment results are shared that indicated participants were greater prepared to maximize the experience.
Format & Technique
This session is presented by Dr. Vincent Lindenmeyer, co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer of GiNOSKO.co, a consulting and microlearning design organization and Preston Love, Jr., Founder Black Votes Matter Institute for Community Engagement. They will discuss the inspiration for the collaboration, the process used to coordinate the curriculum and tour development, and some early results about learning gained through the experiences. Questions will be encouraged throughout the presentation and sample lessons from the curriculum will be explored. Opportunities for follow-up and sample lessons can be provided upon request.
