Session Description
Community educators often have a “go to” list of partners whose organizations have similar goals. But, what happens when we form partnerships with less obvious connections? This workshop will explore ways in which we can diversify and increase community participation, improve local environmental and sustainability awareness, and help potential partners recognize ways they can enhance the impact of their programming through shared resources.Using the successful partnership between the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Libraries and Arboretum as a model, this workshop will delve into ways in which diverse organizations can partner to create place-based educational opportunities focused on environmental education learning outcomes. At the end of this session participants in this session will know how to:
- analyze potential community partners to identify mutually beneficial programming
- identify resource sharing opportunities to enhance programming participants learning outcomes
- design an “elevator pitch” to potential partners on place-based education and the value of increased environmental awareness for communities.
Format & Technique
This session will utilize active learning techniques such as polling and think-pair-share sessions to help participants link content to their own experience and enhance creative explorations of applications in their own communities.
