Abstract

School counselors support students as they grow into productive and engaged members of their communities. Using social justice based core curriculum lessons can help students link the academic, career, and social/emotional knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to real world situations. Using a social justice lens not only champions students’ understanding of their own roles as community members and change agents now and in the future but it enhances student academic achievement as well.
