Every year about 12,000 children aged 5-14 years old are admitted to psychiatric hospital for suicidal behaviour. The number of school-aged youth who have attempted suicide is on the rise. Youth that have attempted suicide are up to 6 times more likely to attempt suicide again in adolescence (Tishler, 2007, p.812). This workshop will provide information about the warning signs, risk factors, and interventions to help prevent suicide. During this workshop, we will have interactive dialog on the importance of recognizing the signs of suicide, the need to provide resources, and to communicate to the person at risk.
