Short Abstract

The current study examined the relationship among specific types of help seeking resources, individual and economic characteristics, and perceived financial stress in the context of financial counseling. Based on a sample of 901 students who sought help from a financial counseling clinic, patterns of resource use and help seeking are identified. These patterns of help seeking can be applied to promotional strategies linked to financial counseling and education efforts on campuses. Moreover, our results demonstrate the potential impact of counseling on reductions in stress levels linked to college student debt and finances.
