Short Abstract

This study attempts to determine the influence of self-esteem, locus of control, and depression (in addition to other key variables) on marital happiness among women. In financial planning, it is common to first consider how one’s financial situation may be contributing to happiness levels. However, the literature shows that financial variables do not fully explain levels of happiness felt by individuals (Johnson & Krueger, 2006). It is also critical to understand the psychological factors that may be affecting clients’ marital relationships and consequently their joint assets available for planning services. This study focuses on three separate psychological variables—self-esteem, locus of control, and depression.
