Session Abstract
For re-accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), many schools of public health have redesigned their graduate curricula. This presentation will share recommendations for course content received from the AAACE faculty listerv and an overview of the resulting doctoral-level course developed to meet two CEPH teaching competencies.

Session Description
In 2016, the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) published new accreditation criteria that included two doctoral-level teaching competencies for academic, organizational, or community settings. These competencies afford an opportunity to introduce public health graduate students to the field of adult and community education. In this presentation, the CEPH teaching competencies will be reviewed, and opportunities and challenges to meeting these competencies will be discussed. Recommendations for course content received from the AAACE faculty listerv will be shared, and the resulting course topics and assessments will be summarized. This presentation is important because it provides an example of how adult and community education faculty might collaborate with public health faculty at their universities to aid in the meeting of these new competencies. It is innovative because it provides an example of how faculty can expand the influence of the field by integrating principles of adult and community education into courses developed for other disciplines. This presentation is timely because there is a growing trend towards competency-based education within health professions, and schools of public health are redesigning their course curricula and degree plans to meet new competencies.
Format & Technique
This presentation will be organized as a PowerPoint lecture. After providing a brief overview of the CEPH teaching competencies, the presenter will discuss opportunities and challenges to meeting these new competencies. Recommendations for course content received from the AAACE faculty listerv will be shared, and the resulting course topics and assessments will be summarized. Time will be allocated at the end of the presentation to answer questions from members of the audience.
