Session Abstract
This session will demonstrate data collection methods that focus on the standards in the educational leadership profession. In addition, data analysis techniques that can be utilized to set goals and inform instruction will be shared and discussed.
Target Audience
The target audience includes adult educators and researchers who want to grow in their use of research on standards in their profession to aide in the goal setting process. Adult educators and researchers will find the session content relevant and will be able to implement ideas seamlessly into their current practices. Adult educators will enhance the strategies they use to set goals based upon the data gathering and analysis tools.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of this session, participants will have learned about the use of data collection to inform teaching practices in their profession based upon standards. Through discussion, participants will be able to converse and explore areas within their own profession where they can utilize research data to impact their instruction. Adult educators will find the session content relevant on multiple levels and will be able to apply what they learn into the structure of their profession.
Session Description
The use of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) to guide mentees leadership positions in goal setting with their assigned mentors is an important education tool. These national leadership standards are designed to address all aspects of the role of leaders. Mentees work with mentors to establish goals. Mentors are assigned based upon qualifications specified in approved state mentoring and induction programs. Assessing the impact of such programs is an important step in the educational process of mentoring emerging leaders. Using surveying tools, such as Qualtrics, data can be gathered on mentee knowledge of and implementation of the PSEL standards throughout their new leadership induction process in both a pre-/post-assessment format. The results of this survey information can be disaggregated utilizing the applications of Qualtrics and excel to identify areas of future growth for individuals and for programs.
Format & Technique
Presenters will begin by giving a short description of their roles in their own profession and will provide the foundation for the use of research to inform their own practice. The presenters will provide examples of their data collection process: tools they use, analyzing of the data, and implementation of the results of the data gathered. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions as well as participate in activities throughout the session that further enhance their understanding of data collection. The session will conclude with presenters plan for continued data collection to continue to assess the impact on their profession.
