Does the Immigrant Parents’ Education Level Affect their Children’s Private Health Insurance Participation?
Short Abstract
This paper examines the association between immigrant parents’ educational attainment and private health insurance coverage for their dependent children. Data from the 2010 wave of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY 79) has been analysed for this study. Preliminary results suggest that children of immigrant parents are less likely to have private health insurance coverage than the children of native-born Americans. Interestingly, however, children of immigrants with educational attainment of college or higher were more likely to have private health insurance coverage than the children of native-born parents.
