Short Abstract

Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America (United States Postal Inspection Service, n.d.).  In 2010, 8.2 million Americans fell victim to identity theft (United States Department of Justice, 2011).  Victims’ financial losses in 2010 added-up to a staggering $13,257,487,000 (United States Department of Justice, 2011).   Fortunately, a vigilant watch over personal documents can greatly reduce the risk becoming a victim of identity theft.  The purpose of this paper is to present ACCI members with the latest information (from academia and governmental agencies) allowing conference attendees to return home with educational information to help protect the identity of consumers.
