Session Abstract

The purpose of this session is to explore strategies for making the most of the doctoral study experience. An experienced professor of adult education will share several strategies for a successful doctoral experience. This will be followed by time for open discussion.

Target Audience

Doctoral students in adult education and those who may be thinking about entering a doctoral program.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn several strategies for having a successful doctoral experience.

Participants will have a chance to dialogue with the presenter about their own experiences.

Session Description

Many people who begin a doctoral program do not finish. The focus of this session will be on helping current and prospective doctoral students learn tips and strategies that can help them negotiate their doctoral program, from coursework through the dissertation. Given the large number of doctoral students who attend AAACE, this session should be relevant to a substantial number of participants.

Format & Technique

The first 25 minutes will be a presentation of strategies, while the remaining 20 minutes will be time for open dialogue.
