Proposal Summary

While we know a healthy diet is fundamental for wellness, access to healthy food isn't a guarantee for all. Additionally, misperceptions around what constitutes healthy food, keep patients from engaging in simple habits that may benefit their health. Eating well doesn't have to mean spending a lot of money or focusing on often inaccessible "super foods." Additionally a holistic approach to diet doesn't include only what is being eaten, but also how, why, where and how much. Even when choices are limited, addressing diet patterns by looking at the whole picture: stress, sleep, and relationship with food can make a big difference. This presentation will explore ways to implement supportive dietary patterns that can fit into many budgets and lifestyles. Participants will walk away knowing how to help identify where, why and how unhealthy foods may be a part of a current dietary pattern but also how to educate and inspire patients around easy and simple ways to incorporate more healthy options and alternatives.

Skills or Experience

I have spoken at 10+ professional conferences/webinars & given 100+ nutrition-related workshops. I was also adjunct professor at Bastyr University for 3 years, teaching classes in both the nutrition & naturopathic depts.
Before becoming a dietitian, I was a professional actor for 12 years in a career that included improv/stand up, so I bring a sense of humor & spontaneity which helps provide a dynamic presentation that engages audiences.
