Proposal Summary

Practitioner self-care is becoming a growing concern in the health care profession. While several programs exist to facilitate these self-care efforts, many are impractical or inaccessible for the integrative/alternative medicine practitioner due to a variety of temporal, personal and business constraints. This presentation focuses on an Energy Medicine approach to self-care offering a ten minute daily energy routine that is design to balance body and mind, improve healing response, and is suitable for practitioners and clients/patients as well.

Energy medicine recognizes energy as a vital, living, moving force that impacts our health and happiness. Viewed as both a compliment to traditional health care approaches as well as a complete system of self-care, energy medicine activates the body’s healing abilities by bringing its energy systems into balance and harmony. Based on an integration of techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Yoga, Touch for Health, Qigong, and Kinesiology, Energy Medicine can help reduce the impact of daily stress, release negative emotions, improve grounding, remove toxins, manage and reduce pain, and balance the body’s energy systems with an easy to learn ten minute daily energy routine.

During this session participants will learn a daily routine (and ways to adapt it to meet their individual needs), as well as the impact these exercises have on the health of mind, body and spirit. These easy-to-do qigong-like exercises are ideal for practitioners and underserved populations since they require no equipment, can be done standing and/or sitting, and are appropriate for everyone regardless of health, age or fitness level. These exercises have been shown to improve sleep habits, increase overall energy and vitality, counteract the effects of stress and contribute to improved health and well-being.
