Proposal Summary

Mixed Greens is a community building initiative in Savannah funded by Georgia Council for Developmental Disability. It is grounded in mindfulness principles and practice, as well as inclusion and universal accessibility. The members decide what is of interest, that is supportive of whole health and healing. The method of learning is based in popular education, offering content and engaging the wisdom of the people.

We provide learning opportunities/series in Mindful Eating and Whole Health through outreach in various community venues. We collaborate with local elementary schools to support the farm to table experience using the garden as an outdoor classroom. We hold regular Death Cafe events to offer opportunity for dialogue about end of life.

One of the mindfulness practices that we use is qigong. Qigong is the grandmother of Tai Chi, a movement practice that raises vitality and diminishes stress. Everyone can access qigong no matter their ability level. We use the principles of energy medicine to support our attention to the whole.

Skills or Experience

My experience as a holistic RN in behavioral health. I have been actively involved in inner city community work, using popular education.

I have taught qigong since the 2000 in a variety of settings. Between 2000 and 2008, I studied MBSR and Healing Touch. I have facilitated 8 week MBSR courses in local cancer center..

Currently I teach a mix of qigong (certified), MBSR and whole health series to a marginalized/inclusive group, Mixed Greens.
