Session Abstract
Qualitative interview with ten military veterans in which they discuss their experience with learning in the military. Surprising lessons emerge which challenge conventional wisdom and illuminate the non-intentional learning which happens thoughout military careers and affect veterans as they transition to civilian life.

Session Description
Learning in the military does not always take place in the military. In fact, more learning take place outside of the classroom than inside it. The military culture is a learning culture, in fact military culture is almost dogmatic in the sharing of knowledge as a means of ensuring organizational survival. Lessons gleaned from interviews with 13 veterans from a wide spectrum of civilian society shed light on learning in the military and how it impacts careers after the uniform.
