
The session offers critical perspectives on the administrative and curricular demands of a rapid implementation of the RETELL policy at Westfield State University. Preliminary research explores differentiated approaches to integrating critical skills, knowledge and consciousness in the SEI course, while addressing the needs of new practicum partnerships.

Dr. Andrew Habana Hafner, Assistant Professor of Education, has two decades of U.S. and international experience in bilingual, ESL/ELL and literacy education as a teacher, trainer, curriculum developer, evaluator and researcher.
Dr. Floris Wilma Ortiz-Marrero, Assistant Professor of Education, joined the WSU faculty in 2012 after twenty-two years of teaching ESL/SEI. She was the 2011 Massachusetts Teacher of The Year.
Olga Escalera, Adjunct Professor of Education, Westfield State University; ELL Specialist, Holyoke Public Schools, is an SLA specialist with 18 years experience as an ESL/SPED Teacher, ELL Coach, trainer, and on the ESL MTEL Test Development Committee.
Patricia Wysocki, Adjunct Professor of Education at WSU and ELL Teacher at Westfield Public Schools, has over two decades of professional experience as an ESL/ELL teacher and she teaches college courses in second language acquisition.
