Expanding Transformative Learning Contexts

ePortfolios have been identified as a high-impact practice: an educational practice with demonstrated benefits to student learning outcomes. If students are to reap these benefits, however, effective implementation and integration of the ePortfolio on campus are essential. One of the keys to the success of an ePortfolio initiative is faculty development, which can be a transformative experience. This session will showcase the results of a case study of two Assessment Institutes (AI), structured as faculty development initiatives, at a large southeastern university. Using excerpts from participant data, the presenters will share which factors helped or hindered transformative learning at the AI. Participants will be invited to discuss how to use these findings to promote transformative faculty development through the ePortfolio, as well as consider the intersections between transformative learning and high-impact practices in their institutional contexts. The findings and discussion can help participants design similar initiatives for transformative faculty development, ePortfolio assessment, and high impact practices in a higher education environment.
