Applying Transformative Learning in Teaching

There is an increased demand to learn through online platforms. A common concern educators share is learning how to ensure quality instruction when teaching is not face-to-face with students. Through high-leverage practices (HLPs), we can implement quality learning regardless of the platform. HLPs are typically used in traditional courses, but can be used in an online learning environment. Through research, it has been discovered there is a great deal of overlap with HLPs between face-to-face and online learning. Learning about students is a key part of creating an effective learning environment. Whether the classroom is in a traditional format or an online format, knowing about students is essential to student achievement. To create a transformative learning environment online, it is necessary for the instructor to be educated on HLPs, what resources the online classroom has, and how to utilize them (Hills & Hughes, 2016). High leverage practices can be an effective way to transform learning.
