Nationally Native Americans are more likely to experience depression and serious mental health concerns. Based on a survey done; 28.4% of Native Americans versus 17.9% of White identifying individuals have ever expressed being diagnosed with depression, while 22.2% versus 11.6% admitted to frequent mental distress. When it came to serious psychological distress 7.5% of the Natives and 3.4% of the White community responded with a yes. My goal is to create my own survey to look at the local effects of mental health on the Kiowa of Oklahoma. Based on these results I plan to begin furthering my study and education so I can begin to work toward improved mental health of the local Kiowa community.
