BALLROOM D
Conference Thread

Applying Transformative Learning in Teaching

Transformative Learning, as defined by the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), is a holistic process that places students at the center of their own active and reflective learning experiences.

How many hours do I need to graduate?
What do I do if I've emailed my professor repeatedly and they never respond to me?
How do I get an internship?
How do I balance my full-time job with all of my academic responsibilities?
Why do I have to take proctored exams?

These are just a few of the questions we hear from students on a consistent basis in the College of Business Student Success Center.

Our goal is to explain our process for creating the Student Success Center, and how we utilize our time and resources to engage our students in transformative learning experiences outside the traditional classroom setting such that they will be equipped to succeed in college and in life.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. describe how to incorporate meaningful experiences to engage students in transformative advising and career consulting.
2. describe how the UCO Student Success Center provides students a transformative educational experience.
3. cite a few statistics concerning the benefits of transformative learning as applied to advisement and career consulting.
4. plan for adding transformative educational experiences to their educational environments.
