Engaging with Transformative Learning Research

While we know Transformative Learning happens in and out of the classroom, it can be applied across the entire college experience. Each student experience with UCO faculty and staff has the opportunity to be transformative, whether it’s formal teaching or standard educational tasks like enrollment. To that end, the IDEA Team in the Center for eLearning and Connected Environments is researching how to transform student learning from behind-the-scenes in the form of Expected Grade Difference - a measure of how a student performs in a class compared to what their GPA would indicate. By applying this measure to course schedules and program progression, we can set students up for success from the very beginning and initiate conversations that would otherwise be missed. To foster these conversations, we have developed several tools within the KPI Dashboard such as the CRN Schedule, EGD Comparison, and Prior Completion. These tools allow users to look at the EGD of a course or course schedule (taking course load into account) and help to identify “pain points” for students. This session will discuss and demonstrate the EGD tools and show participants how they can be used during interactions with students.
