An introduction to the roots of TL learning theory and contemporary conceptualizations of TL

“Transformative Listening Protocol” is part of a study being conducted at multiple sites in Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Thailand, and the United States. This study is being done to explore the effectiveness of the TLP to promote authentic listening as a transformative component of learning through story in a variety of settings and global contexts.
Engaging in personal storytelling and intentional listening can play a key role in creating spaces for transformation. Jacobs and Coghlan (2005) suggest, “by listening to another person, we acknowledge the other in his or her difference and thereby prepare the relational ground for intersubjective generation of new meanings” (p. 129).
The TLP is intended to improve listening skills, foster deep sense-making, and generate spaces in which participants may connect with another, and learn more deeply about oneself. The TLP may be used with dyads in a variety of settings. Participants in this session will use the Transformative Listening Protocol (TLP), reflect on their experiences with it, and provide feedback about their experience.
