Short Description
Idaho's College of Southern Idaho has just completed the pilot of an innovative non-traditional pathway to certification, co-designed with Charlotte Danielson, to address the state’s rural teacher shortage. The program’s instructional modules and performance assessments are grounded in the INTASC Standards and Progressions and built around Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching Clusters. This session will focus on the research foundation of this program, emphasizing the NAAC Quality Indicators. We will invite participants to join us as thought partners and early adopters as we prepare to expand the program, made up of four main components:
- Online Instructional Modules-The modules include video-recorded interviews with Charlotte Danielson and other pedagogical experts explaining the rationale and research base for the professional practices taught in the modules, including authentic examples of the concepts being taught. The six Clusters are organized into five modules:
- Classroom Management and the Learning Environment
- Clarity of Instructional Purpose and Accuracy of Content
- Intellectual Engagement and Application of Content
- Successful Learning by all Students
- Professionalism
- Performance Assessments-Candidates submit authentic evidence of their practice to determine proficiency in each of the five modules.
- Web-based Delivery and Scoring of Assessments-This component enables candidates to securely submit work for each of the tasks, allowing for a distributed pool of certified assessors to score evidence of candidate performance.
- Mentor Training and Online Coaching-Mentor Training and certification ensures that mentors can differentiate high from low rigor in teaching practices using Charlotte Danielson’s FfT Clusters, and can facilitate professional conversations for growth.
