Abstract

Unfortunately, many school leaders and community members do not view school counselors as professionals who are uniquely qualified to address the mental health needs of students.  With increasing demands on their time, school counselors find themselves in conflicted positions of spending more time on academic and career domains while struggling to meet the increasing needs of students presenting mental health concerns.  This session will focus on the school counselor in a multi-tiered continuum of care that involves working collaboratively with other mental health resources.  Attendees will learn about involvement of Apex counselors and best practices for utilizing outside providers as a resource for supporting students.
