Abstract

Deployment. Permanent Change of Station. Separation and Reintegration. The educational experiences of many military-connected students are often complex and shaped by these three distinct transitions which sometimes present social/emotional stressors that are unfamiliar to civilian school counselors (Cole, 2018). In this session, attendees will explore military culture, examine the impact of military transition on student social/emotional development and highlight ways in which school counselors can lead the way in serving and supporting this unique population.
