Abstract

African American girls face a multitude of issues that can inhibit their academic, social/emotional, and career development while in the K-12 environment.  School counselors can play a vital role in advocating with and for this population, while inspiring them to reach new heights. This presentation will highlight factors that contribute to “pushing out” African American girls and will primarily focus on putting forth practices and strategies for uplifting and inspiring them toward overall success.
