Abstract

Traumatic events such as pandemics, natural disasters, poverty, abuse, or the death of a caregiver can significantly impact a student’s success at school (Perfect, Turley, Carlson, Yohanna, & Saint Gilles, 2016). Without proper intervention, trauma can have a lasting impact on a student’s development and trajectory in life. The purpose of this presentation is to define types of trauma, identify how trauma impacts student learning, and explore the implementation of trauma-informed interventions within school communities.
