“My favourite people in the whole university”: User Experiences of Alma Resource Sharing
Conference or Developers' Day
Conference (20 minutes + 5 min Q/A)
Session Abstract
The University of Western Australia Library’s document delivery and interlibrary loan service has been delivered using Alma Resource Sharing since 2016. After three years in operation, we decided to proactively assess user experience of the service using User Experience (UX) methodology. What we found astonished us. Not only was there more scope to improve the resource sharing service than we had expected, but many of our assumptions about what our users knew or wanted were incorrect.
These findings provided the impetus for a 2020 project to improve user experience of the resource sharing service. As part of this project, Alma and Primo functionality was reviewed to improve system efficiencies, and development of key areas of the Alma/Primo resource sharing workflow were promoted in response to user feedback.
This session will cover our UX interview methodology and findings, the outcomes of the resource sharing project and the value of UX testing for service improvement.
