Extending the Learning: The Massachusetts Initiative for Excellence in SEI Instructional Coaching

Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:30 PM–3:15 PM EDT
Boardroom
Session Abstract

In this session MATSOL 's Coaching Partnership team will provide a brief overview of a multi-year project funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop and provide coursework to literacy, math and other content coaches who support new SEI-endorsed teachers in classrooms with English language learners. The session will provide an overview of six research-based principles of learning that shelter instruction and guide the instructional coaching model. We will share the research and coaching outcomes for this model and highlight best practices in making instruction collaborative, language rich, dialogic, contextualized, cognitively challenging and based in real-world applications of school learning.  For additional information about the Massachusetts Initiative for Excellence in Instructional Coaching, please contact Paula Merchant at paulamerchant@matsol.org
