Session Abstract
Community colleges are one of the major providers of continuing education for adults in the United States. This session will explore the challenges, opportunities, and critical issues facing administrators working with these programs, particularly noting and reporting the impact of the recent COVID pandemic.
Session Description
The session will begin with a through overview of survey findings about the status of continuing education programs in community colleges. This presentation will present a variety of data, including the perceptions of continuing education administrators and other community college leaders. These responses indicate the greatest challenges and opportunities facing community colleges, and these data will be analyzed based on type of college and types of programs being offered. Additionally, data will be presented identifying the most critical issues facing the range of continuing education programs offered by community colleges, and which ones are the most likely to expand or contract during the next decade.
Following the technical presentation and research findings, each presenting member will have several minutes to offer unique perspectives on the work from their academic disciplines, including, in order, education, political science, human services, and public administration.
The session will conclude with ample time for a critical discussion and question and answer period. As a part of this, those in attendance will be invited to join a list-serv to continue the discussion about successful recruitment programs beyond the conference.
