Session Description
Being qualified to lead involves more than experience and formal education. Many of us have experienced individuals being transferred into organizational leadership positions when they are not qualified to lead. Placing an unqualified individual in a position of leadership can lead to low employee morale, high turnover, and have an adverse impact on overall organizational performance. Using slides, we will discuss the historical context of leadership motivation and how far research regarding motivation to lead has progressed. We will also discuss the role emotional intelligence and intrinsic and extrinsic motivators play in leadership emergence. Lastly, we will introduce a framework that integrates various leadership principles and has the propensity to empower employees and cause prospective leaders to emerge naturally.
