Short Description
We investigate the presence and nature of required student health insurance on the published cost of attendance (CoA) for a small sample of universities. The varying nature of these requirements, and how these requirements are portrayed and included in the CoA, can significantly distort the values used by financial planners when helping clients save for college. The results suggest there may be opportunities for greater transparency in CoAs and more in-depth education for students and parents when understanding the costs of higher education.
