Australian superannuation (pension) funds - understanding asset mix and risk, the significance of retirement income product choice
Keywords
superannuation, pensions, risk, retirement, Australia
Short Description
The purpose of this work is to examine the association of retirement income product choice with Australian baby boomers[1] asset mix and risk decisions for their superannuation (pension). It is argued that the product choice for retiree drawdown arrangements may have significant consequences, with risk exacerbated, given associated change to asset mix. This is an emerging area of interest, with life-time income (annuity) products re-introduced as part of legislative changes effective 1 July 2019. This article provides simulation outcomes on retirement income products, for asset mix and risk, based on existing default superannuation MySuper arrangements.
