Starting with the premise that integrating intercultural learning in a non-mobile world languages classroom fosters equity of access for all learners, this paper further explores the question of equity by comparing how face-to-face vs. virtual modes of instruction affect the development of intercultural speakers across various learner demographics.

Professional Biography

Dr. Aletha Stahl brings two decades of faculty experience, including designing and leading international programs, to her position as Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist in Purdue’s Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research. Among others, her responsibilities include curricular needs assessment and intervention and managing the program “Growing Intercultural Leaders.”

Professional Biography

Dr. Tatjana Babic Williams is a Continuing Lecturer and the Director of Italian Studies at Purdue, where she teaches all levels of Italian language and culture. Tatjana has received theoretical and practical training in intercultural pedagogy, and she has been instrumental in interculturalizing the Italian curriculum at Purdue.
