Global Cultural Immersion-Not Just for Students Anymore
Presentation Summary
This study explored the effects of global immersions offered to faculty and staff, utilizing a qualitative descriptive method to capture perspectives through individual interviews. Dissonance prompted internal transformations based on new perspectives. Participants also identified an increase in compassion for students from diverse backgrounds.

Diane Ceo-DiFrancesco, PhD serves Faculty Director of the Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning and professor at Xavier University. Diane coordinates immersion programs in Latin American for faculty, staff and students. An international educational consultant, Diane has published on such research topics as immersion, ICC, virtual exchange and COIL.

Leah S. Dunn, EdD, OTR/L, is an associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has participated in international immersion experiences with her students for five years and continues to assist with the planning and evaluation of those experiences.
