Presentation Summary

This roundtable presents a discussion of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project between the US and Mexico as a teaching practice that fosters proficiency in Intercultural Competence in online modality.  We will  present our experiences in the steps to design, implement, and evaluate a COIL project.

Professional Biography

Dr, Elisabeth Arevalo-Guerrero is a Senior Lecturer of Spanish and Intercultural Communication and director of the Intercultural Living Exchange Program, a Living Learning community that fosters intercultural communicative competence through experiential learning at UMBC. Her academic and research interests are: teaching languages, intercultural training study abroad, COIL, and intercultural competence.

Mrs. Martha Leticia Poblano-Reyes is a Lecturer of English, Intercultural Communication, and Human Resources at Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla.  She also  trains faculty interested in COIL and assists in the coordination of COIL programs in LatinAmerica and the US. Her academic interests are international relations, COIL, and foreing languages.
