R-V There Yet?” On the Road to Whole Ebook ILL
Conference Track
1. E-Resources Management & Licensing
Abstract
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is an important part of resource sharing for libraries worldwide, and the pandemic only emphasized the need to facilitate lending across libraries in response to shifting library budgets and expanding virtual learning environments. While ILL services have expanded to include support for digital lending, there is no scalable solution for aggregated whole ebook lending. Supporting a shift to whole ebook lending offers an opportunity for publishers and libraries to collaborate on how best to address challenges and leverage the affordances of digital content and workflows.
Join this discussion to hear from an academic librarian and a publisher as they discuss the benefits and concerns surrounding ILL models and the opportunities presented by whole ebook lending. Early results and findings from a successful whole ebook ILL pilot will be shared.
