Virtual Reality’s Support for Soft Skills Development in Higher Education Students
Abstract
Virtual reality continues to gain prominence in its potential to serve higher education patrons in particular fields, but where does the evidence point towards its greatest pedagogical benefits? This session explores this, surveying some recent research on ‘soft skills’ development in students, then tells the story of a pilot program between Bodyswaps and SAGE Publishing that is now fully launching at this year’s ER&L conference: a new VR program entitled ‘The Mental Health Practitioner’, designed to improve communication and empathy skills in healthcare students.
