Preparing the CAAHEP/CARTE Self-Study for Academic Accreditation in Recreational Therapy
Session Description/Research Abstract
The purpose of this Session is two fold. First, it will provide an overview of accreditation under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education (CARTE). Second and more
importantly, the session will provide information and hands-on experience in completing the forms and process for academic accreditation under CAAHEP-CARTE.

Biographical Information
Teresa is currently Professor in Recreational Therapy and Associate Dean for the College of Health Professions at Grand Valley State University. She has a BS in Recreation Administration (emphasis in TR) from Indiana University, MS in Leisure Services (emphasis in TR) from Florida State University and a PhD in Higher Education Administration from University of North Texas. Teresa has over 30 years of experience in the Recreation Therapy Profession with a combination of clinical and community practice prior to entering higher education. Teresa has presented at the national and international levels and has provided a wide range of leadership and service to the profession.

Biographical Information
Tim Passmore is a Professor in Recreational Therapy at Oklahoma State University where he directs and conducts research addressing recreational therapy interventions related to specific diagnostic groupings of individuals. Dr. Passmore also serves ATRA a a Coverage consultant for individuals and facilities seeking assistance. Current vice-chair of the Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education (CARTE)

Biographical Information
Jared Allsop, Ph.D., CTRS – is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Health and Wellness Design, in the School of Public Health at Indiana University. He has twice been awarded the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award. He received his undergraduate degree in Recreation Management & Youth Leadership with an emphasis on Recreational Therapy from Brigham Young University in 2007. He received his master’s degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with a focus on Recreational Therapy from the University of Utah in 2012. He completed his PhD in Leisure Behaviors at Indiana University in 2018. He has worked as recreational therapist serving individuals recovering from substance abuse. He has also been the program director and lead recreational therapist at the Kostopulos Dream Foundation (KDF) working with individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities of all ages. He has been at Indiana University since 2012 where he has cultivated his passion for teaching and best practices for recreational therapy education. The foundation of his teaching philosophy is firmly planted in his passion and commitment to the field of recreational therapy and to the education of future recreational therapists. He is also currently serving as the secretary of the CARTE national board. His research focuses on utilizing active learning and constructivism principles to increase student learning and comprehension.
