Applying the Standards of Practice for Recreational Therapy to all Service Settings
Session Description/Research Abstract
Participants will explore the content of the ATRA Standards of Practice manual. Participants will learn how the standards can and should guide their practice, and the process of developing policies and procedures for their Recreational Therapy department or program. They will learn the basics of policy and procedure writing to aid in the development and/or revision of their current policies and procedures. Participants should bring a copy of the SOP Manual to this session.
PLEASE BRING A COPY OF THE ATRA STANDARDS OF PRACTICE FOR USE DURING THE SESSION.

Biographical Information
Dr. Bright has been on the Standards of Practice committee since 2014 and has been the chair since 2018. She currently works as an instructor in the Recreational Therapy program at Slippery Rock University (SRU). Prior to becoming an instructor, Heather worked in various clinical and community-based settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Experience includes, physical rehabilitation (brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, chronic pain, etc.), long-term care, adult day programs (programs for all-inclusive care for the elderly), and an accessible camp for children and adults with disability and chronic illness.

Biographical Information
MaryJo Archambault is an associate professor at Southern Connecticut State University. She is both the undergraduate and graduate coordinator for the recreational therapy programs. She has been an active member of the ATRA Standards of Practice Committee for over three years. MaryJo has practiced recreation therapy in the field for over 25 years. Her experiences range from Skilled Nursing, Psychiatric Hospitals, Physical Rehabilitations Hospitals, and Community Programming.
