Abstract

Appearance ideals or comparisons can negatively impact a student’s self-esteem and body confidence. For some, the issue is related to appearance discrimination. Students may not be aware that appearance discrimination may be present that can negatively impact the student experiencing it.

This Dove Self-Esteem Project lesson addresses:

• Ableism

• Color/Shadeism

• Hair Discrimination

• Racism

• Sexism

• Sizeism

This interactive lesson helps students learn how to respond when they see or experience appearance discrimination and why inclusion is important.
