In February 2022, Aranne Central Library began implementing Rialto. We were equally excited and apprehensive since Rialto’s potential for streamlining the acquisition process could not be overstated, yet its adoption demanded a fundamental change in the existing practices for both the acquisitions department and the subject librarians. Over the following two months, we collaborated with representatives of the Rialto implementation team, striving to incorporate the new module in terms of the technical aspects and the practical guidelines.
In my presentation I showcase this undertaking, starting with our practices before the launch of Rialto, through the implementation and the testing periods, to the consolidation of a new viable workflow. I present Rialto’s improvements to the acquisitions process and note some areas where the product could still be refined. So far, the purchasing module has become a functional part of the library's operation, reducing or eliminating past inefficiency.
