WHELF+ peer-to-peer interlending and implementing RapidILL: rethinking document supply at Cardiff University
Physical/Virtual?
Physical session (+ live streaming with Zoom)
Session Abstract
Cardiff University Library Service has been part of the WHELF interlending scheme since 2018. Using Alma's ISO functionality, participating WHELF libraries lend to each other without charge. The scheme has made savings and brought the WHELF ILL community closer together. A mark of its success, the scheme has now expanded to include UK higher education libraries from outside Wales.
Cardiff University implemented RapidILL in 2022. Before this, our inter-library loan model was a traditional one: a user places a request, ILL staff check if the title is already held and, if not, the request is sent off. Once the document is received from the lending library, ILL staff send it on to the user. RapidILL forced us to rethink our document supply service and explore automating the whole ILL workflow.
This presentation will explore how the WHELF+ interlending scheme and RapidILL have helped us to streamline our processes and offer a better, quicker service to our users.
