Data driven acquisition – Alma Analytics in the use of a new library acquisition model
Physical/Virtual?
Physical session (+ live streaming with Zoom)
Session Abstract
In 2019 the management of Ben-Gurion University’s library decided to make the process of journals subscriptions acquisition more efficient. The goal was to better the use of the library’s budget by building a model that will allow the decision makers to rely on objective numerical data. A team of representatives from the library’s management and experts on usage data as well as representatives of university’s academic staff attempted to make this happen. The model they built weighed in the cost and usage data (cost per use) and considered the alternative of inter library loan. Every year reports with all the relevant data are pulled from Alma Analytics, therefor, requiring the library’s staff to constantly improve the data available in Alma such as Counter platforms. The final model on which decisions will be based this year was built over 3 years in a continuous process that was formed by the changes in the library’s staff understanding of the data and changes in library’s services.
