Session Abstract

The University of Manchester Library's Special Collections holds a range of physical and digital material brought together via collection descriptions on the library website. The Special Collections A-Z is a well used entry point for discovery of these collections, however, the maintenance of these webpages was becoming increasingly unsustainable to maintain. This presentation will provide an overview of how Alma has been used as a solution. By making use of Alma's resource management and collections functionality, and the available APIs, Alma has been repurposed to support our web content management system by hosting metadata for display on webpages. As well as describing the technical challenges encountered, this presentation will also discuss the benefits this project has brought in back-end management of the data and strengthening collaboration between colleagues from Special Collections, metadata, digital development, and systems. Plans for future use will also be presented.
