Session Abstract
Hybrid journals where only certain number of articles in an issue are Open Access present problems for traditional link resolvers. As knowledge bases deliver link availability information at the journal level and by date range librarians must decide whether to include hybrid journals or the packages that include them in the knowledge base. Excluding hybrid journals reduces discoverability of Open Access full text but including hybrid journals can result in researchers following links and hitting paywalls for articles that require a license. Links from Unpaywall can be added to link resolver results to address this problem however the method used to harvest Open Access links introduces errors such as broken links links to non-versions of record links to retracted articles and other problems. This presentation will discuss how LibKey addresses these challenges and helps libraries deliver fast reliable and comprehensive linking to Open Access articles including those from hybrid journals. An overview of the new Third Iron analytics reports will also be provided to illustrate how data about Open Access linking can assist in collection management.
