Take a moment and revisit a scenario, a common circumstance that probably happened to you yesterday or a week ago: You’re facing a patron or a staff member who can’t find a printed item in its “supposed to be” at a given location. As librarians, you can relate to the frustration and inconvenience associated with this scenario. It is estimated that 4%-5% of imprint materials are considered as missing or lost annually – also known as loss rate. LIBscan was created to address this (loss) rate. LIBscan is a straightforward service which associates a shelve identifier to an item identifier using its existing barcode. LIBscan utilizing ExLibris’ ALMA out of the box attribute, customized shelving patterns and a common barcodes scanner. LIBscan supports the library staff to locate and/or re-shelve printed materials to their designated location. I’ll be privileged to present the LIBscan experience with the librarians’ community to share its benefits.
