A Change of Plans: Learning Together During a Remote Migration
Physical/Virtual?
Physical session (+ live streaming with Zoom)
Session Abstract
The University of Toronto Libraries began our migration to Alma in late 2019 with an ambitious and elaborate plan for training at our 40+ libraries. Things kicked off in style with a travelling roadshow that focused on preparing our hundreds of staff not just for the technical side of change, but the emotional side they would be experiencing as well. Then, in March 2020, plans changed. An already taxing process was compounded by the most dramatic change to work in our lifetime. Hear how we completely shifted our approach to training, deploying a flipped classroom model and relying on active feedback from our staff about what they needed help with learning. Ultimately, embracing the limitations of online learning helped us better understand our colleagues and changed the way our large, distributed library system communicates about Alma.
