Abstract
School counselors play a vital role in creating meaningful bridges between academic skills and social-emotional development in their students. This presentation highlights how school-wide read-alouds can be a catalyst for a number of positive outcomes beyond literacy including developing SEL skills, building stronger relationships, increasing empathy, encouraging social justice, and positively impacting school climate. Practical concerns, potential read aloud books, and SEL lesson ideas will be discussed.
