Abstract
Burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma are prevalent in the helping professions. Therefore, as school counselors continue to shoulder their student's personal difficulties and their own, self-care becomes an ethical and moral imperative. The ASCA Ethical Standards state that school counselors must monitor their emotional health and practice wellness to ensure optimal professional effectiveness. This highlights the need for school counselors to learn about and implement best practices related to self-care.
